Country adherence to WHO recommendations to improve the quality of HIV diagnosis: a global policy review

WHO publishes guidelines on HIV testing strategies that maximise the likelihood of correctly determining one’s HIV status. Researchers conducted a comprehensive policy review through April 2018. Global uptake of WHO recommendations for HIV testing services are low, with only 26% of country policies in adherence. Adherence exists on a continuum, and there are several small steps countries could take that would greatly increase adherence and minimise the likelihood of an incorrect diagnosis.
