Swine flu: UK reports its first human case of A(H1N2)v strain

The UK has detected its first human case of a new strain of influenza, A(H1N2)v, in a person who experienced mild respiratory illness but has now recovered, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported.

The agency said that, based on early information, the infection detected is a distinct clade (1b.1.1)—different from other human cases of influenza A(H1N2) seen in other countries, but similar to viruses circulating in pigs in the UK.

The case was detected through routine flu surveillance undertaken by UKHSA and the Royal College of General Practitioners.
