WHO Releases IPC & WASH HERO CAPE Self-Assessment Tool
We are pleased to share a WHO’s recently published ‘Infection prevention and control and water, sanitation and hygiene in health emergencies readiness for response operations capabilities: user guide and checklist‘ referred to as the IPC & WASH HERO CAPE. This self-assessment tool is designed to support national and subnational health authorities in evaluating IPC and WASH readiness capabilities and sub-capabilities required to respond effectively to priority public health threats or infectious disease outbreaks.
The checklist aims to:
- Assess existing IPC and WASH operational readiness for emergency response
- Identify gaps and priority areas for improvement
- Guide strategic actions to strengthen preparedness and response capacities
The tool is structured in alignment with the WHO Framework and toolkit for infection prevention and control in outbreak preparedness, readiness and response at the national level, and users are encouraged to be familiar with the framework when applying the checklist. By promoting a standardized approach, the IPC & WASH HERO CAPE supports more effective response strategies and strengthens resilience against public health emergencies.
